Memorial Day activity and treat

Memorial Day activity and treat

Looking for a fun activity and special treat for your kiddos this Memorial Day?

My kids love to bake, but projects need to be easy.  It also helps if there are “taste testing” opportunities along the way.  This is such a fun activity to do with your children.  Let your kids do the creative side of this dessert making.  It doesn’t need to be perfect and the lines don’t need to be straight. I am not a professional baker by any means (as you can see by the pictures) but, it is not about perfection it is about fun! The fruit pizza will turn out very cute and your children will appreciate making it with you.

 Here is what you need
  • 1 pkg 16.5 oz refrigerated sugar cookie dough (or make your own!)
  • 1 pkg 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • blueberries and strawberries

Start by laying a piece of wax paper on your counter.  Sprinkle the paper and the dough with flour, so your dough won’t stick.  Next, roll the dough out to a rectangle shape and form with your hands. Transfer the dough and the wax paper to a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Then set aside to cool for another 10 minutes.

While your crust is cooling, make an easy cream cheese frosting by combining the cream cheese and sugar. Spread this yumminess across your cookie crust and lick the bowl clean.

Finally, add your blueberries and cut strawberries to make your flag design. Lightly press each berry into the frosting.

YUM!  You are now ready for a tasty treat.  Enjoy!

AND enjoy this cute video made by my 12 year old helpers.

We wish you all a Memorial Day of remembrance; honoring the memories of those who died serving our country.

 Xoxo,

Natalie
